Sustainability & Stewardship

A SPECIAL USER. A SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITY.

Operating a commercial heliskiing business on Crown Land is a privilege and a responsibility. Dream Catcher Heliskiing Ltd. is licensed for its heliskiing and snowboarding tours by the Government of British Columbia. As such, the stewardship of the land on which we operate, and share with other users, is a guiding principle of our daily operations.

Dream Catcher Heliskiing has contributed, in part, to the continued development of the Best Practices for Sustainability manual with Heli Cat Canada environmental standards committee. As well as abiding by our management plan, we are continually evaluating our business practices so that they are in-keeping with other land uses, community development and continually evolving wildlife management planning.

We communicate closely with the regional biologist, and train our staff in mitigation of impacts on key wildlife species and riparian environments. This includes planning the ski runs and flight plans according to the wintering behaviours of mountain goats, grizzly bears, bald eagles and wolverines.

Dream Catcher Heliskiing participates in land use planning with forest companies, recreationists, First Nations, and all the levels of government in order to utilize ski terrain throughout the our operating tenure effectively and with the least conflict to other users.

We fly as efficiently as possible to minimize noise disturbance to local residents, whether they walk on two legs or four, while at the same time trying to be as fuel conscious as possible. Our mountain weather data and ski run images are available to recreational backcountry users (of which there are very few due to the remote nature of our terrain which is unroaded in its entirety). We offer assistance in the event of an emergency for our neighboring operator and/or other users of the land or water during our regular operations.
